NCH campaigns for wider access to information and communication technology for children from less advantaged backgrounds. We also recognise that the internet enables those who would harm children to have wider and more direct access to them. Therefore we strongly promote online safety for all children. Good (PDF - 4MB) Internet safety FAQConsult our internet safety FAQ, which offers advice to parents and carers to help ensure children surf safely at all times. It covers issues such as how to stop children visiting inappropriate websites, ensuring they use 'moderated' (appropriately monitored) chatrooms, and parental control software. Get Net SmartNCH's Net Smart rules give children and young people the essential information they need to be streetwise in cyberspace, so that they know what to do, and what not to do, to have fun and stay safe. A to Z of the internetAnd because jargon can discourage people from trying new technology like the internet, there's also a handy A to Z of the internet, to promote better understanding and, through that, greater protection for children. It explains everything from attachments to spam emails. Working together for internet safetyNCH is a member of the Children's Charities' Coalition for Internet Safety (CHIS) and we campaign on internet issues as part of this organisation. Expert resources that are available to download include a CHIS Digital manifesto for child safety online and NCH's Child abuse, child pornography and the internet report. |
